The aim of orthodontics is to bring the teeth into a beautiful and healthy position and to improve the biting function. Orthodontics can be carried out in several ways, depending on what problem needs to be corrected and what requirements the patient has. The most common types of braces are the following:

• Fixed braces: these braces consist of brackets bonded to the teeth and a wire connecting them. The tension of the wire determines the direction and force with which the teeth are moved. Fixed braces are not removable and usually need to be worn for 1-3 years. Fixed braces can be made of metal, porcelain or sapphire, or they can be of an invisible design bonded to the inner surface of the teeth. The advantage of fixed braces is that they are very effective and can solve a wide variety of problems. Their disadvantage is that they are harder to clean and may be less desirable aesthetically.
• Removable braces: these braces consist of a plastic or metal frame and flexible elements, and the patient can put them in and take them out themselves. Removable braces usually need to be in the mouth for 12-16 hours a day and must be replaced regularly. Removable braces are used mainly in childhood, when the growth of the teeth and jawbones needs to be influenced. Their advantage is that they are easy to clean and interfere less with speech and eating. Their disadvantage is that they are less effective and require the patient's cooperation.
• Invisible braces: these braces consist of transparent plastic aligners that fit precisely onto the teeth and gradually reshape the position of the dental arch. Invisible braces are removable and a new aligner usually needs to be provided every 2-3 weeks. The advantage of invisible braces is that they are almost imperceptible and do not interfere with speech and eating. Their disadvantage is that they can only be used for minor crowding and bite irregularities, and they are more expensive than traditional braces.

The orthodontic process at our practice takes place as follows:

• First we carry out a thorough dental examination, during which we determine what type and duration of orthodontic treatment you need and what result can be expected.
• We then take an impression of your teeth, on the basis of which our dental technician designs your braces, or we order your invisible aligners.
• Once the braces are made or arrive, we fit them or hand them over to you, and we explain how to clean and care for them.
• At regular check-ups we monitor the condition and effectiveness of the braces and, if necessary, adjust or replace them.
• Once the orthodontic treatment is complete, we give you a retention device that helps to preserve the result achieved.
