How many implants hold a full set of teeth in place?

How many implants hold a full set of teeth in place? The most common solution is 4 implants per jaw (this is the so-called All-on-4 technique), but depending on the condition of the bone and the type of restoration, 6 implants (All-on-6) may also be required. The precise number is always determined by the treatment plan based on the dental CT scan.

Why are 4 implants enough for a full set of teeth?

Az All-on-4 technique the essence is that, of the 4 implants, the two rear ones are placed at an angle, so that they distribute the chewing force over a larger surface of the bone. In many cases this also avoids the need for bone grafting, and the fixed, non-removable denture can be used stably.

When are 6 implants recommended instead?

If the quality or quantity of the bone warrants it, or if a longer, more heavily loaded full-arch bridge is being made, the All-on-6 solution provides greater stability, because the chewing force is distributed across six points. In the upper jaw, where the bone is typically softer, we more frequently recommend the 6-implant solution.

And what about a removable denture on implants?

There is also an intermediate solution: a removable denture can be significantly stabilised with as few as 2-4 implants. This is cheaper than a fixed full-arch bridge and sits far more securely than a traditional suction-retained removable denture.

What determines which solution works for you?

  • the quantity and quality of the available bone (based on a CT scan)
  • general state of health
  • the type of restoration desired: a fixed full-arch bridge or a removable denture
  • your budget — you can find the package prices on the All-on-4 prices page

Frequently asked questions

How long does it take to make the complete set of teeth?

After the implantation you will receive a temporary denture; the final restoration is made once the bone has healed. We set out the precise schedule in the treatment plan.

Can implants be placed in old age too?

Age in itself is not a disqualifying factor. The decision is made on the basis of general health and the condition of the bone, which is why a thorough examination is important.
