Smile Design

Smile design in Budapest is a digital dental service in which the dentists at Smile Expert use software-based planning and our own in-house dental laboratory to show you in advance what your new smile could look like, before it is finalised. The aim of the process is for the colour and shape of the teeth, and the whole set of teeth, to suit your personality, your face and the curvature of your lips. Smile design currently costs 40,000 HUF with our summer discount and begins with a free consultation at our practice in District V.

What is smile design, and who do we recommend it for?

The essence of smile design is to plan and create the smile that best suits your personality and character. The process covers the colour of the teeth, the design of their shape and their precise formation. During planning, factors such as the patient's age and gender, the starting colour of the teeth, the curvature of the lips and the harmony of the face also come into focus. The dentist does not merely examine the current condition of the teeth, but strives to achieve complete harmony between the teeth, the face and the smile.

Smile design can also mean putting the teeth completely in order. Aesthetic treatment is a process during which more serious problems may also come to the fore, such as bite abnormalities or jaw pain. Shaping the entire set of teeth is therefore important not only because of the image seen in the mirror, but health-related reasons may also lie behind it.

The smile design process step by step

At our practice, smile design begins with a comprehensive examination and takes place in the following six steps:

  1. Dental CT and general dental examination. The process begins with a CT scan and a general examination, and X-rays and intraoral photographs are taken. Putting the teeth in order and preparing them also begins. In many cases, fitting a crown or implant may become necessary for the complete smile makeover process.
  2. Jaw joint diagnostics. This step ensures that chewing is comfortable with the finished teeth and that they feel as if they were your own.
  3. Impression taking. Taking the impression that forms the basis of precise planning.
  4. Digital planning. Based on the dental CT, the model made from the impression and the jaw joint diagnostics, our dental technician plans your teeth using a special dental technology program.
  5. 3D-printed try-in. We print the plan in plastic using a 3D printer, so you can try out whether it is comfortable and looks good before we produce the final version.
  6. Final tooth replacement. The final solution is produced on the basis of the approved plan, which in most cases we make from zirconium.

Why is it worth planning with a 3D try-in?

In most places, at the end of smile design you only receive a clever photo or digital image. With us, by contrast, you receive a real, 3D-printed plastic set of teeth that you can try out. This means that, if needed, we can modify it and reprint it before the final version, in most cases made from zirconium, is produced.

Thanks to this approach, you don't have to rely on imagination alone: right from the start you can see and feel what the overall result at the end of the treatment is likely to be. The 3D-printed try-in costs 46,000 HUF, and the wax-up costs 10,000 HUF per tooth. Our advantage is that we work with our own in-house dental laboratory, so planning, the try-in and any modifications take place in a coordinated way.

Which treatments can smile design be based on?

Smile design begins by drawing up a precise treatment plan and discussing the prices. Whether it involves aesthetic treatments, veneers, crowns or restorations, we produce these with the help of a dental technician. Among the guide prices for the related treatments, a pressed-ceramic veneer is 90,000 HUF each and a zirconium crown is 120,000 HUF. If you would like a brighter smile, teeth whitening can also nicely complement the plan. You can find the full, current pricing of the treatments in our our dental price list .

Frequently asked questions about smile design

How long does smile design take?

Smile design is a process that begins with a comprehensive examination, a dental CT and photographs, then progresses through jaw joint diagnostics, impression taking and digital planning to the 3D-printed try-in, and finally to the final tooth replacement. The exact duration depends on the treatments required, so we can estimate this at the free consultation.

Does the smile plan commit me to anything?

Smile design begins by drawing up a precise treatment plan and discussing the prices, so right from the start you get a clear picture of your options and costs. Planning currently costs 40,000 HUF with our summer discount, and the consultation is free.

What if I don't like the planned smile?

That is precisely why we make a 3D-printed plastic try-in. You can try it out and, if needed, we can modify it and then reprint it before the final version is produced. This way, we only finalise the smile that you are happy with too.

Which treatments is smile design based on?

Smile design can be based on aesthetic treatments, veneers, crowns and restorations, and in many cases a crown or implant is involved. In most cases we make the final tooth replacement from zirconium, while the try-in that precedes all this is made from 3D-printed plastic.
